The mission of House of Ruth is to provide housing, comfort, peace of mind and hope to those experiencing homelessness.
It goes without saying that housing is a critical necessity for all of us. Without a home, that’s all any of us would be thinking about – finding a safe and clean place to live for ourselves and our families.
The causes of homelessness vary but the most common are economic challenges, domestic violence, family issues, chronic health conditions, substance abuse, mental illness, PTSD, and lack of affordable housing. As people become stabilized in housing, their dependence on emergency services drops, and their health outcomes improve significantly. Homelessness and healthcare are intimately interwoven. Poor health is both a cause and a result of homelessness
Homelessness has a ripple effect throughout the community. It impacts the availability of healthcare resources, crime and safety, the workforce, and the use of tax dollars. Further, homelessness impacts the present as well as the future. It benefits all of us to break the cycle of homelessness, one person, one family at a time.
Almost everyone knows someone who is touched by these conditions, however, many of us have natural support systems that can help us through difficult times. But what happens when those support systems fail? House of Ruth is dedicated to being the support system that many people need in their time of difficulty.
